Director Geetu Mohandas is set to release one of the most-anticipated films in Indian cinema, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, starring Yash, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth. The Kannada-English period gangster drama is scheduled to hit theaters on March 19, 2026, coinciding with the release of Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
Plot and Setting
According to the UAE distributor Phars Film, the story of Toxic unfolds in Goa between the 1940s and 1970s. Yash plays a formidable gangster who builds his empire through blood, fear, and betrayal in a coastal land grappling with fading colonial shadows and emerging crime syndicates.
“Power is not granted – it is seized, and it always demands repayment. As smuggling routes become battlegrounds and loyalties unravel into suspicion, paranoia turns into a means of survival. In the end, the only force more powerful than the consequences of his choices is the abyss within him,” reads the synopsis.
The film has been rated 18 TBC, signaling adult content.
Cast and Crew
Toxic is directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced by Venkat K Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations. This marks Yash’s 19th film and his first project after the blockbuster KGF series. The film was shot simultaneously in Kannada and English and will be released in other South Indian languages as well as Hindi.
Controversies Ahead of Release
The first teaser, released on Yash’s birthday on January 8, sparked controversy for including a sexual scene. The Women’s Wing of the Aam Aadmi Party and the National Christian Federation filed complaints with the Karnataka State Commission for Women and the CBFC, citing explicit content and alleged religious insensitivity due to a depiction of Archangel Michael in a cemetery fight sequence.
