A female showroom employee was allegedly gang-raped by three masked youths near the ITI in Dharmasala, Subarnapur district, while returning home from work on Thursday evening.
According to her complaint, the attackers sprayed a substance on her face, causing her to lose consciousness. They then assaulted and gang-raped her. She could not identify the accused due to their masks. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Biramaharajpur police station.
After regaining consciousness, the victim approached the police and filed a formal complaint. Biramaharajpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) confirmed the incident and stated that the investigation had begun. Police arrested two suspects early Friday morning and are searching for the third.
The SDPO said the miscreants used the spray to immobilize the woman. They took advantage of her condition and committed the crime. The officer assured that the police are working to gather evidence and ensure justice.
The incident has sparked outrage in the local community. Residents expressed concern over rising crimes against women and demanded stronger security measures. The case has also raised questions about safety in semi-urban areas and the need for better street surveillance.
Authorities have deployed additional patrols in the area. Police urged citizens to report suspicious activity and remain alert. The victim is receiving medical care and counseling support.
