Berhampur: Shibashankar Das, an independent candidate who is contesting from the Berhampur Assembly seat has been arrested by the police for attacking BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate Pradeep Panigrahi.
As per reports, Shibashankar and Panigrahi came to blows at Gosaninuagaon last night. While supporters of Das alleged booth rigging, supporters of Panigrahi claimed that the issue cropped up over the sealing of the EVMs.
After the incident, Shibashankar was taken to the police station and sent to the court. After the court dismissed his bail plea, the accused has been sent to the jail.
In this incident, Panigrahi sustained injuries and was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. He was then shifted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. According to his family members, Panigrahi suffered a fracture in his chest.
