Powerful Nor’wester storms swept across several parts of Odisha on Monday, causing widespread destruction and disrupting normal life in multiple districts.
The sudden spell of heavy rain and strong winds claimed the life of a minor girl in Mayurbhanj district while several others sustained injuries in storm-related incidents.
The intense weather system uprooted trees, damaged houses, snapped electricity lines, and blocked major roads, leaving residents struggling to cope with the aftermath.
Minor Girl Dies After Tree Branch Falls in Mayurbhanj
A tragic incident was reported from the Thakurmunda area of Mayurbhanj district, where a minor girl lost her life after a tree branch collapsed on her during the storm.
According to reports, the girl was returning home with her mother in Baliposi village when strong winds caused a large branch to break off and fall on them. Both suffered severe injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared the girl dead on arrival. Her mother is currently undergoing treatment.
The Nor’wester also caused major disruption in the region. A fallen tree blocked the busy Karanjia–Thakurmunda road for several hours, affecting vehicular movement and causing long traffic delays. Several houses in nearby villages were partially damaged due to the powerful winds.
