A shocking incident unfolded in Khiching village of Mayurbhanj district on Friday, as a man and woman reportedly attempted self-immolation by pouring petrol and setting themselves on fire in Khiching.
The woman tragically succumbed to the blaze at the scene, while the man sustained severe burn injuries and was immediately shifted to Keonjhar Medical College for advanced treatment. Both individuals are said to be residents of Khiching.
Eyewitnesses described the event as disturbing and sudden, triggering panic among locals. Police reached the spot promptly and began an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the act.
So far, the exact reason for this extreme step remains unknown. Authorities are probing possible personal or social triggers behind the incident. The man is under medical supervision, and his statement may shed light on the motive once he’s stable.
