The Kendrapara district administration has enacted prohibitory measures under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at Durga Mandap square in Aul Bazar and nearby areas due to a political conflict between the BJP and BJD concerning the construction of a New Year’s decorative gate.
These orders issued by the magistrate will remain effective until further notice, strictly banning any unlawful assemblies or gatherings.
The conflict emerged at Durga Mandap square when volunteers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attempted to build the gate. This action faced opposition from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) workers, who have historically overseen the erection of the gate.
Tensions escalated into a confrontation between the two factions, prompting the police to intervene and restore order. Following the clash, both parties were summoned to the local police station for mediation; however, neither the BJP nor the BJD showed willingness to compromise on the gate’s construction.
In light of the persistent tensions, authorities have implemented Section 163, which forbids public gatherings and activities in the vicinity. The magistrate has made both groups aware of the restrictions, which will remain in effect until further court directives.
Security measures have been significantly heightened in the Durga Mandap area to ensure public order, with law enforcement personnel deployed to the site. Currently, there have been no official comments from the BJP, BJD, or police regarding the situation.
