National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) achieved a major milestone as 67 of its faculty members earned a place in the prestigious SciRank Global World’s Top 5% Scientists List.
The Global Institute of Scientometrics publishes this annual list, which evaluates over 10 million researcher profiles and 50 million scholarly publications worldwide.
Congratulating the faculty, NIT Rourkela Director Professor K. Umamaheshwar Rao said the recognition reflects the institute’s commitment to research excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. He emphasized that the achievement demonstrates the strength of NIT Rourkela’s research ecosystem and its ability to address real-world challenges through science and technology.
The evaluation process relies on field-normalised bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex, the world’s largest open research database. This transparent, data-driven approach ensures credibility and eliminates institutional bias.
Among the 67 featured faculty members, the Department of Chemistry recorded the highest representation, followed by Computer Science and Engineering, Life Science, and Electronics and Communication Engineering. The diversity of disciplines underscores the institute’s robust research capabilities across both core and emerging fields.
