A youth attempted self-immolation inside the campus premises at a private college in Bhubaneswar’s Khandagiri area on Tuesday.
The man, employed as an attendant at the institution, reportedly set himself ablaze in full view of staff and students, causing widespread panic.
Eyewitnesses rushed to his aid, and he was immediately transported to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he remains in critical condition with approximately 15% burn injuries. Medical personnel are closely monitoring his recovery.
Preliminary investigations by local police suggest that the act may have stemmed from ongoing family disputes. Authorities are probing the circumstances surrounding the incident, which has reignited concerns over the rising number of self-immolation cases in Odisha.
This marks yet another disturbing episode in a string of similar incidents reported across the state in recent weeks, highlighting the urgent need for mental health support and conflict resolution mechanisms.
