The Union government has announced the introduction of a FASTag-based annual pass for private vehicles, priced at Rs 3,000.
Effective from August 15, 2025, this new initiative aims to reduce congestion and offer a hassle-free toll payment experience.
The pass, exclusively available for non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans, allows up to 200 trips within a year from its activation. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari unveiled the plan, emphasising that this system will simplify toll payments and reduce disputes at toll plazas.
To activate and renew the annual pass, users can access the Rajmarg Yatra app or visit the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The new pass also addresses concerns over toll plazas within a 60 km radius, promising a smoother commute for millions of private vehicle owners.
FASTag has played a crucial role in digitising toll payments since its mandatory implementation in 2021. As of December 2024, over 10.1 crore FASTags had been issued nationwide, with an average daily collection of Rs 193 crore through electronic payments.
With this new policy, the government hopes to enhance highway efficiency and ease travel for private vehicle owners, ensuring a faster, more economical, and stress-free journey.
