The Saudi-led coalition intercepted and destroyed 10 ballistic missiles launched by Houthi forces toward the Kingdom’s southern region on Sunday, coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki confirmed.
Explosions echoed across Riyadh as civil defence authorities issued emergency alerts for the capital, Abha, and Khamis Mushait. Authorities later confirmed the danger had passed, revealing that two drones and a ballistic missile were targeted at Riyadh, while a cruise missile was directed toward Khamis Mushait.
The barrage coincided with the reopening of Terminals 1 and 2 at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, which had suspended operations following a deadly strike that claimed 13 lives.
Despite the airport resuming limited flights, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree warned that the facility remains a “military target” and cautioned airlines and passengers against using it.
The fresh offensive follows a series of cross-border strikes targeting strategic energy and aviation infrastructure. Saudi Civil Defence also reported debris falling near Jeddah, Taif, and Rabigh following the interception of missiles launched toward Mecca and Medina.
However, Houthi representatives refuted claims of targeting holy sites, labelling the allegations false.
