Maoists targeted security forces with a landmine explosion in Saranda Forest, near the Odisha-Jharkhand border.
The powerful blast occurred during an anti-Maoist operation in the Marangpong area, resulting in the death of CRPF Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar Mandal and critical injuries to jawan Partha Pratim Dey.
The explosion affected personnel from the CRPF 197 Battalion. Both injured officers were initially treated at Chotanagra Hospital before being airlifted to Ranchi for advanced medical care. Unfortunately, Sunil Mandal succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in Ranchi.
This attack comes just days after another landmine explosion in the same region left a CRPF jawan severely injured. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in combating Maoist activities in the area.
