Deogarh police arrested Ramesh Garia, accused of brutally killing his wife, daughter-in-law, and four-year-old granddaughter in Gariapali village under Kundheigola police station limits.
The murders took place late on March 11 following a family dispute.
According to police, Ramesh attacked his family members with a hammer before fleeing. On Saturday morning, villagers spotted him atop an overhead water tank in Gariapali. As locals surrounded the tank and informed police, Ramesh attempted to jump and also consumed liquid from a plastic bottle, suspected to be poison.
Police, assisted by fire service personnel, managed to bring him down safely after hours of persuasion. He was rushed to the local hospital in an unconscious state and later shifted to Deogarh District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors provided preliminary treatment before transferring him to Burla Medical College for advanced care.
Deogarh SP Anil Kumar Mishra confirmed that once Ramesh’s health stabilises, legal proceedings will follow and he will be produced in court.
