Cuttack: After a gap of 4 days, another open drain mishap has claimed the life of a sanitation worker in Cuttack, the millennium city of Odisha.
According to reports, the deceased has been identified as P. Narasingha (35). He died after accidentally falling into the open drain while carrying out cleaning work at the Barapathar area of Buxi Bazar under the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) jurisdiction and within Dargha Bazar police station limits.
Sources said, Narsingha, a contractual sanitation worker of Watco, was engaged in cleaning near the open drain when the mishap took place at around 2 pm.
While cleaning, he accidentally fell into the drain and was rescued in critical condition. He was immediately rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital but the doctors declared him dead.
A 21-year-old youth from Rajasthan lost his life after falling into an open drain at Jhola Sahi in Cuttack.
The deceased, identified as Rahul, had come to Cuttack to meet his relatives. He was on his way to a teashop in the morning when he fell into the waterlogged drain and died.
Following the death of the sanitation worker, tension prevailed in the locality as scores of people took to the roads and staged a demonstration by burning tyres. Soon, police arrived at the scene and pacified the locals peacefully.
On the other hand, no official statement has been made by the authorities concerned in this regard.
