The Commerce & Transport Department, in collaboration with IIT Madras, is developing a cutting-edge Road Safety Dashboard titled Road Awareness and Traffic Harmony.
The initiative was spotlighted during a high-level meeting chaired by Smt. Usha Padhee, IAS, Principal Secretary of the department.
The Dashboard is envisioned as a real-time, data-integrated platform that consolidates Odisha’s ongoing safety campaigns—such as Zero Accident Day (ZAD), the ‘Come Home Safe’ initiative, and the Surakhya mascot—into a unified digital ecosystem. It will empower both policymakers and citizens with actionable insights, analytics, and emergency coordination tools.
A standout feature is the citizen-centric module Sahayaka (ସହାୟକ), enabling individuals to report accidents and nominate Raahveers—grassroots volunteers trained to assist during road emergencies. This participatory model aims to drastically reduce response times and foster community ownership of road safety.
The Dashboard is being integrated with national platforms like ERSS and eDAR-CCTNS, while IIT Madras’s Sanjaya Super App will serve as a complementary tool within the ecosystem.
“Road safety is a collective responsibility,” said Smt. Usha Padhee. “This Dashboard is a major leap forward in using real-time data, citizen input, and institutional coordination to save lives.” Prof. Venkatesh Balasubramanian added, “It’s about democratizing road safety and enabling timely action through seamless integration.”
The meeting concluded with a joint resolution to expedite implementation and ensure Odisha’s roads become safer and more responsive.
Senior officials, including Transport Commissioner Shri Amitabh Thakur, IPS, and IG Crime Branch Shri Sarthak Sarangi, IPS, were present at the meeting.
