RTI activist Priyabrata Gadnayak suffered severe injuries after a brutal attack in Dhenkanal town on Wednesday afternoon.
Miscreants stopped his vehicle near Mahisapat Square and launched a violent assault in broad daylight.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers dragged Gadnayak into the middle of the road and struck him repeatedly with sharp weapons. His face, hands, and legs sustained deep wounds, causing heavy bleeding. Locals rushed him to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors formed a special team to continue treatment. His condition remains critical.
The incident sparked panic in the area as residents witnessed the activist being beaten mercilessly. Police reached the spot and began an investigation. Officers are probing the motive behind the attack and examining whether it was linked to his RTI activism.
Authorities confirmed that no arrests have been made yet, but efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits. The police investigation will focus on uncovering the reasons behind the assault and the individuals involved.
