Rourkela: In a tragic incident, three minor boys drowned in Koel river near Jhirpani picnic spot in Rourkela on Wednesday.
Fire services personnel retrieved the bodies from the river near Bhattapada ghat. Their identities have not been ascertained yet, police said.
The trio aged below 12 years had gone to the river on Wednesday afternoon for taking bath. As they went deep into the water, they got drowned.
Jhirpani police seized the bodies of the deceased and send them to Rourkela government hospital for post-mortem. A Â probe was launched into the circumstances leading to the death of the minor boys, police said.
Worthwhile to mention here that frequent incidents of drowning have occurred in Koel river in recent months. At least six drowning incidents were reported in the river in the last three months.
Three Class IX students drowned in the river on December 20. Â They were students of an English medium school who had gone to Jhirpani for a picnic.
Two youths had gone missing while taking bath in Koel river at Teterekela on January 10.
