India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, showcased his batting skills in the second ODI against England in Cuttack on Sunday.
His exceptional century of 119 runs off 90 balls led India to a four-wicket victory and made him the second-highest run-scorer for India as an opener in international cricket.
Rohit has now scored 15,404 runs in 343 matches at an average of 45.43, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s 15,335 runs in 346 matches. Virender Sehwag still holds the record for the most runs by an Indian opener with 15,758 runs, but Rohit is closing in on that total.

England posted 304 runs, led by Joe Root (69) and Ben Duckett (65). Ravindra Jadeja stood out with three wickets for India. In response, Rohit and Shubman Gill (60) combined for a 136-run partnership, while Shreyas Iyer (44) and Axar Patel (41 not out) helped secure a four-wicket victory.
With this win, Rohit matched Viv Richards with 36 ODI captaincy victories, trailing only Clive Lloyd, Ricky Ponting, and Virat Kohli, who are tied at 39. As India progresses in the series, Rohit’s remarkable form reinforces his status as one of the greatest batters of his generation.
