Dubai: India opener Rohit Sharma has overtaken captain Virat Kohli to become the top-ranked Indian batsman in the ICC Test Rankings. Meanwhile, Joe Root has risen to the top spot in the ICC Test Batting Rankings.
He returns to the top for the first time in 6 years after replacing New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.
Rohit has moved to the No. 5 spot while Virat Kohli has slipped a position to No. 6 after 3 Tests of the ongoing 5-match series against England in England.
Rohit has 773 rating points, 7 more than captain Kohli who has been struggling for consistency in international cricket. While Rohit has scored 230 runs in 3 Tests against England while Kohli has managed just 124 runs in the same number of matches.
Meanwhile, Cheteshwar Pujara’s battling 91 in the second innings has also seen him progress three spots to jump up to the 15th spot in the rankings table.
Notably, Rishabh Pant has slipped out of the top 10 as he dropped from the 8th spot to 12 after a series of poor outings in England. The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman was dismissed for single-digit scores in both the innings of the 3rd Test in Headingley.
