Rinku Hooda, India’s rising para athletics star, claimed his first world title with a stunning performance in the men’s F46 javelin throw at the World Para Athletics Championships 2025 in New Delhi.
With a massive throw of 66.37 meters, Hooda not only secured the gold medal but also set a new Championship Record, surpassing the previous mark with his very first attempt of 63.81 meters.
The 26-year-old athlete from Dhamar village in Haryana led the competition from the start, with his closest rival, Sundar Singh Gujjar, finishing second with a throw of 64.76 meters. Hooda’s victory was met with roaring applause from the crowd, many of whom had traveled from his hometown to witness the historic moment.
Despite the sweltering conditions, Hooda remained composed and focused, crediting his training and family support for the win. “I’ve had good sessions here before the championships. It was just my day,” he said. Hooda’s journey has been marked by resilience—from a childhood accident that led to the amputation of his left arm, to years of rigorous training and international competition.
Having missed out on a medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, Hooda sees this win as redemption and a stepping stone toward his ultimate goal: a podium finish at the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics. “One day I will make a world record. God has given me a personal record and a world title. I’m thankful,” he said.
