Rima Das, the renowned filmmaker, has garnered global recognition at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival with her film “Not A Hero,” winning the prestigious Crystal Bear Special Mention. This honor was awarded during the festival’s award ceremony on Saturday, marking a significant achievement in the filmmaker’s career.
“Not A Hero” premiered in the Generation Kplus competition section, a category dedicated to films that focus on children and youth. The film was praised by the Children’s Jury, comprising members such as Walter Moritz Arndt, Gustav Arnz, Thabani Dabulamanzi, and several others. The jury noted the film’s poignant portrayal of youth, strength, and self-discovery, making it a standout at the festival.

Film Synopsis:
“Not A Hero” stars Bhuman Bhargav Das, who had previously appeared in Rima Das’s 2022 film “Tora’s Husband”, alongside Sukanya Boruah and a cast of non-professional actors. The narrative is set between the city and the countryside and follows a young boy as he journeys through an unfamiliar world, navigating the complexities of masculinity, strength, and identity.
The plot focuses on the boy’s transition from city life to his ancestral village, where he encounters a bitter aunt, befriends a horse, and embarks on wild adventures with local children. These experiences help him discover both the beauty of life and a courage he never knew he had.

Bhuman Bhargav Das shared his excitement after the win, saying, “I’m so happy to win. We had amazing screenings with so many people watching, including many children like me.
