In the aftermath of the car explosion in Delhi on Monday evening, authorities across Odisha have placed the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on high alert for three days.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a nationwide directive to airports to intensify security measures — and Bhubaneswar has already begun full-bag screening, increased patrols, and tighter vehicle access.

Airport Director Prasanna Kumar Pradhan stated that 100 % of bags will be screened both at check-in and pre-boarding for the next three days. In addition, Quick Response Teams (QRTs), bomb-disposal squads, dog units, and expanded CCTV coverage have been deployed. He added that while security has been enhanced, no flights have been delayed or disrupted, and passenger cooperation has been “satisfactory.”

Outside the airport, the Hotel & Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO) has issued a circular prompting hotels and hospitality establishments state-wide to tighten guest screening, verify IDs, maintain visitor registers, and remain alert without compromising courteous service. The advisory highlighted that tourist sites and major infrastructure installations may be at higher risk of attempted disruption.

State officials confirm that district administrations, especially in Bhubaneswar, Puri and Sambalpur, are on heightened alert. The Odisha Police has been instructed to coordinate with local intelligence units to monitor railway stations, bus terminals and religious sites. The elevated security procedures are expected to remain in place for at least three days, or until instructed otherwise by central authorities.
