Burla police detained seven youths and seized two vehicles in Sambalpur district for reckless driving on the right dyke of Hirakud Dam.
The action came after viral videos circulated on social media showing dangerous stunts.
The videos captured youths driving recklessly while filming “movie-style” clips. Some sat on car roofs, others smoked cigarettes, and several posed with gestures as the vehicles swerved unpredictably. The stunts disrupted traffic and endangered commuters.
Police registered PS Case No. 56/2026 under Sections 281/285/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Sections 184/201 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The seized vehicles remain in custody, and search operations are underway to apprehend others involved.
Officials warned against rash and negligent driving, urging citizens to report such behaviour immediately to prevent accidents. Authorities emphasised that strict action will continue against those endangering public safety.
