Puri: The much-awaited opening of Jagannath temple’s treasure trove or Ratna Bhandar was opened at the auspicious time of 1:28 PM on July 14 (Sunday), after 46 years.
The Ratna Bhandar of Mahaprabhu Jagannath was opened today following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) approved by the state government.
“Jai Jagannath! With Your blessings the Ratna Bhandar was opened after 46 years for a noble cause; I strongly believe that the endeavour will be a success,” said Odisha CM Mohan Majhi.

As per reports, the expert team entered the outer chamber of Ratna Bhandar and the process to open the inner chamber was underway till the last report came in. Today only an inspection of the Ratna Bhandar will be carried out.
A 15-member team, all dressed in traditional attire, entered the Jagannath Temple at 12:00 PM after receiving the ‘Agyanmala’ from Lord Loknath. This event marked the opening of the Ratna Bhandar, the temple’s treasury, for the first time in four decades.
The team included Ratna Bhandar monitoring committee Chairman Justice Biswanath Rath, SJTA Chief
Administrator Arabinda Padhee, Ratna Bhandar monitoring committee member Dr CBK Mohanty, Ratna Bhandar subcommittee member Durga Dasmohapatra, monitoring panel member Jagannath Dasmohapatra, ASI Superintendent Dibishada Brajasundar Garnayak, Chhatisha Nijog’s chief and Gajapati Maharaj’s representative Janardhan Pattajoshi, Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain, SJTA Administrator (rituals) Jitendra Sahoo, Development Commissioner Ajay Jena, Srimandir Core committee member NC Pal, SJTA’s Chief of Engineering Ashish Kumar Subudhi, Bhandar Mekap representative Ganesh Mekap, Tadhaukaran representative Himanshu Sekhar Patnaik and Deulakaran representative Chandrasekhar Mangaraj.
The 11-member committee that went inside the Ratna Bhandara included the SJTA Chief administrator, Puri Collector, ASI Superintendent, a Ratna Bhandar subcommittee member, two members from the supervisory panel, a representative of the Gajapati Maharaj and four from the servitors community.
