Raksha Bandhan, the festival celebrating the bond of protection between siblings, observed on Saturday, August 9 this year.
According to Drik Panchang, the Shubh Muhurat for tying Rakhi begins at 5:47 AM and ends at 1:24 PM on August 9. The Aparahna period (late afternoon) is considered most auspicious, and if unavailable, the Pradosh period can also be chosen for the ritual.
Astrologers confirm that Bhadra, considered inauspicious for Rakhi, will not affect the celebrations this year. Panchak, another unfavourable period, will also not be in effect during the tying of Rakhi.
Raksha Bandhan traditions see sisters tying a sacred thread (rakhi) on their brothers’ wrists, praying for their well-being, while brothers vow lifelong protection. The festival, rooted in Hindu mythology, has evolved into a celebration of love and trust, often transcending blood relations.
