Puri: A sexagenarian man was apprehended by the police for allegedly raping and impregnating a minor girl in Baselisahi area of Puri district.
The accused has been identified as Kanhu Charan Behera (61) of Markendeswar Harijan slum.
Reportedly, the matter came to the fore after the 17-year-old girl was found pregnant.
As per reports, finding the minor alone at home, the accused outraged her modesty. He had also threatened to harm her family if she spoke about the ordeal to anyone.
After knowing about the minor girl’s pregnancy, the family members lodged a written complaint at the police station.
On the basis of the FIR, police registered a case (98/21) under relevant Sections of the IPC and arrested the accused.
