Lawyers in Puri blocked the National Highway near Malatipatapur today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They opposed the relocation of all Puri courts to the Balukhanda Sanctuary area.
Hundreds of lawyers staged a road blockade and raised slogans, demanding that the relocation plan be scrapped. The protest disrupted traffic and affected daily life in the region.
Lawyers argued that the relocation would not only inconvenience them but also impact lakhs of people who depend on easy access to the courts. They stressed that this issue goes beyond the legal fraternity and directly affects the public.
The Puri Bar Association stated that the protest was timed with the ongoing Assembly session. They urged legislators to hold a detailed discussion and find a solution that avoids shifting the courts. The association’s secretary said the relocation plan threatens public convenience and must be reconsidered.
