President Droupadi Murmu is likely to visit Odisha towards the end of November, marking her first visit to the State Assembly since assuming office, Law and Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan confirmed on Monday. While a formal schedule from Rashtrapati Bhavan is awaited, officials have begun making preparations for the anticipated visit.
The Odisha government has proposed that President Murmu address the upcoming winter session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. A tentative confirmation has reportedly been received, though the final details of the program are still being finalized. “There is a possibility of the President visiting Odisha. Additional information will be shared in due time,” Minister Harichandan said.
If confirmed, this visit would be symbolically significant, marking her first appearance in the Assembly as the Head of State. The Assembly Secretariat has initiated renovation and redecorating work in the chamber traditionally used by the President, along with other areas, to prepare for the visit.
Significance of the Visit
Before becoming President, Droupadi Murmu served as Minister of Commerce and Transport and was an MLA from Rairangpur. The visit would reconnect her with the Assembly where she began her public service career nearly two decades ago. Interior renovation is underway to restore the chamber she used during her earlier tenure, reflecting the historical and emotional importance of the visit.
Preparations Underway
Though the official itinerary from Rashtrapati Bhavan is yet to be announced, local authorities and security agencies have already started coordinating for the visit. President Murmu’s last visit to Odisha was in July 2025, when she attended the 5th convocation of AIIMS Bhubaneswar and the 13th convocation of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack.
