In a historic first, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the Odisha Legislative Assembly, delivering an emotional and deeply personal speech that resonated with lawmakers across party lines. Her remarks reflected humility, gratitude, and a powerful reminder of democratic responsibility.
President Murmu said she felt honoured to speak in the Assembly, noting that while she has addressed many legislative bodies across India, speaking in Odisha held special meaning for her. She credited the House for shaping her journey, saying that her presence in the highest constitutional office was possible because of the opportunities she received here and the blessings of Lord Jagannath.
Reflecting on her early political career, she said she had once asked questions as an MLA and answered them as a Minister in the very same House. Seeing several former colleagues present in the gallery, she expressed deep emotion and nostalgia.
Drawing from Odisha’s rich history, the President highlighted the transformative legacy of Kalinga, recalling how the region changed Emperor Ashoka from Chandashoka to Dharmashoka.
