A pregnant woman endured severe hardship in Baradayodi village under Tentulikhunti block when locals carried her three kilometres on a cot due to the absence of a road.
Pan Jani, 26, experienced labour pains on Thursday morning. Her family called the 108 ambulance service, but the vehicle could not reach Baradayodi because the village has no road access. The ambulance waited at nearby Sindhiguda village. With no alternative, villagers helped carry her on a cot for three kilometres before transferring her to the ambulance. She was then taken to Tentulikhunti Community Health Centre.
Baradayodi villagers have long faced difficulties due to a lack of basic infrastructure. They boycotted voting in the last panchayat elections to protest the absence of a proper road. Despite repeated appeals to block officials for electricity, drinking water, and road connectivity, no progress has been made.
Frustrated villagers even returned their ration cards, demanding inclusion in the neighbouring Kalahandi district for better facilities. Officials promised road construction, but the commitment remains unfulfilled. The latest incident highlights the continuing neglect and the daily struggles of residents.
