The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, celebrated International Yoga Day 2025 by participating in a mass yoga demonstration held at the Uttarakhand State Police Line Maidan in Dehradun.
The event brought together hundreds of yoga practitioners from across the state, setting a spirited tone for the global celebration.
Addressing the participants post-session, President Murmu greeted yoga enthusiasts around the world and emphasised India’s pivotal role in bringing this ancient practice to the global centre stage. She lauded yoga as a unique contribution of India to global wellness—“a powerful symbol of our soft power,” she said.
Highlighting yoga’s role in preventive healthcare and mental well-being, she said, “Yoga promotes a healthy mind and body, and nurtures the inner personality of individuals. When individuals thrive, so does the nation.”
Explaining the deeper meaning of ‘Yoga’ as ‘to connect’, the President underscored its power to link the body, mind, and soul—and more importantly, to connect people and communities across boundaries.
She urged all citizens to adopt yoga into their lifestyles and inspire others to do the same: “Let us make yoga a part of our daily rhythm and a bridge to collective well-being.”
The President’s active participation served as an emblematic reinforcement of India’s global commitment to wellness, harmony, and holistic living.
