Two prominent leaders of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Ashok Nanda and Narayan Luha, have been arrested in connection with the brutal assault of a youth, Nitish Kumar, over a controversial social media post.
The incident, which took place in Bishipada, Sonepur, has triggered widespread outrage after a video of the attack surfaced online.
A Violent Political Backlash
Nitish Kumar, who allegedly posted remarks targeting Ashok Nanda, was summoned under pretences to the residence of independent MLA candidate Sonali Bishi. There, a group of 10 to 15 men convened an informal “kangaroo court” and physically assaulted him. Reports indicate that the assailants, affiliated with the ruling party, coerced Nitish into recording an apology on video.
Legal Action & Arrests
Following the viral video, Nitish filed a complaint at the Birmaharajpur police station. Nine individuals were initially arrested, with Nanda and Luha taken into custody soon after. The court denied bail, and both leaders were sent to jail.

The arrests have caused unrest among their supporters, who attempted to create disturbances at the police station. Political analysts speculate that this incident might influence upcoming elections in the region.
