Sambalpur police raided a gambling den in Burla town’s Kadha Market and arrested seven people, including an army jawan.

Officers seized cash worth Rs 1,40,560, vehicles, mobile phones, and gambling materials during the operation.

Police launched the raid after receiving information about gambling activities during routine patrolling on Tuesday night. The team stormed the location and caught the accused red-handed. Authorities registered case number 517 and produced the arrested individuals in court.

The arrested men include Bikram Singh (30) of Vishnumandir Pada, Rajkumar Prasad Gupta alias Jilmi (31) of Delhi Market, Muna Prasad (37), Rahul Prasad Gupta (35), Basudev Barik (34) of Pathanbandh, Prahlad Bag (28), and Tejbahadur Chhetri (47) of PG Chhak. Police confirmed that Tejbahadur works as a havildar in the SSBN 5th Battalion in Balasore and had returned home on leave.

Investigators seized one car (OD-15-AD-6449), three motorcycles (OD-15-N-8698, OD-15-AC-7453, OD-15-AR-6649), and three scooters (OD-15-F-1087, OD-15-P-4744, OD-15-AA-1357). They also confiscated seven mobile phones and 104 playing cards used in the gambling sessions.

Police emphasised that the crackdown demonstrates their commitment to curbing illegal gambling in Sambalpur. Officers stated that such activities not only involve large sums of money but also attract individuals from different backgrounds, including government employees.

Authorities assured that investigations will continue to identify others involved in the network.
