The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) registration deadline for the Kharif 2026 season has been extended till August 31, following a request from the Odisha Cooperative Department.
The extension aims to ensure maximum farmer participation and safeguard cultivators against crop losses due to natural calamities and uncertainties.
The scheme is available to both loanee and non‑loanee farmers, as well as sharecroppers. Farmers can avail free crop insurance coverage up to five acres, with only Rs 1 per plot charged for bank account verification. The state government bears the farmer’s premium share, while the Centre provides subsidy support.
In districts like Ganjam, Kalahandi, Puri, Subarnapur, Baragada, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Jajpur, and Jagatsinghpur, registration during the extended period is restricted to loanee farmers. In other districts, all eligible farmers can register.
Notified crops under PMFBY for Kharif 2026 include paddy, maize, groundnut, ragi, cotton, arhar, ginger, and turmeric. Farmers can register through PACS/LAMPCS, cooperative and commercial banks, CSCs, insurance representatives, and approved digital platforms. Sharecroppers can also enrol with landowner consent.
The government has deployed officials across ARCS, DRCS, and CDAO offices to assist farmers. Those yet to register are urged to complete the process before the August 31 deadline.
