Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today release the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from Varanasi, transferring Rs 20,500 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers nationwide, including thousands in Odisha.
Under this tranche, each eligible farmer will receive Rs 2,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), continuing the government’s annual financial support of Rs 6,000, paid in three equal instalments.
With this release, the total amount transferred under PM-KISAN since its launch in February 2019 will rise to Rs 3.69 lakh crore over 20 instalments.
Odisha Farmers to Benefit
Agriculture departments in Odisha have confirmed that Aadhaar-linked accounts are ready to receive the funds. The Centre expects the financial infusion to help farmers meet input costs during the ongoing Kharif season and boost their resilience against market and climatic challenges.
Scheme Expansion
The PM-KISAN scheme, a central sector initiative targeting land-holding small and marginal farmers, has expanded significantly in recent years.
-
Under the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra (Nov 2023), over 1 crore new farmers were added.
-
After the new government took office in June 2024, another 25 lakh farmers joined within 100 days.
The 19th instalment, released from Bhagalpur, Bihar in February 2025, disbursed Rs 22,000 crore to more than 9.8 crore farmers.
