In the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 tourists, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has convened two high-profile meetings: the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) and the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA).
The CCS meeting, scheduled for Wednesday at 11 AM, will focus on reviewing India’s security measures in light of the tragedy. This is the second such meeting since the incident, underlining the severity of the situation.
Later in the day, the CCPA will hold its first meeting in a considerable time, with key ministers like Nitin Gadkari and JP Nadda expected to discuss political strategies.
In response to the attack, the government has taken bold steps, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, closing the Attari check post, and revoking the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani citizens. Further measures like shutting Indian airspace to Pakistani carriers and banning their ships from Indian ports are under consideration.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe, launching an in-depth investigation into what is being described as one of the deadliest civilian attacks in Kashmir in nearly two decades.
