Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended greetings on National Sports Day, paying homage to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and highlighting India’s growing sports ecosystem.
“On this special occasion, we pay tribute to Major Dhyan Chand Ji, whose excellence continues to inspire generations,” the Prime Minister posted on X (formerly Twitter).
He noted that over the last decade, India’s sporting landscape has witnessed a “remarkable transformation” — from grassroots programmes nurturing young talent to the creation of world-class facilities. “Our government remains committed to supporting athletes, building infrastructure and making India a global hub for sporting excellence,” he added.
