Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede at the Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, where the death toll has risen to 10.

In a message posted on X, Modi wrote, “Pained by the stampede in Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover soon.” He announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.

The stampede occurred during a large gathering for Ekadashi in Karthika Masam, when a railing collapsed amid heavy crowd pressure. Several devotees were injured, and chaos ensued before police brought the situation under control.

The incident has sparked concerns over crowd management and safety protocols at religious events. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause and prevent future tragedies.

Modi’s swift announcement of financial aid reflects the Centre’s support for the victims and their families. Local officials and public representatives have been directed to oversee relief efforts and ensure proper medical care for the injured.
