A pickup truck carrying workers overturned near Gayatri Temple in Raighar block of Nabarangpur district, leaving one dead and five injured.
The accident occurred when a Tata pickup truck, carrying 12 to 15 workers from Birisadi, Bhatipara, Lalpara, and Pandaripakhna areas, lost balance and fell into a pond near Gayatri Temple. The vehicle overturned violently, trapping several workers inside.
Local residents rushed to rescue the injured and called emergency services. A 108 ambulance transported the victims to Raighar Medical. Santun Gand, 27, from Pandaripakhna village, succumbed to injuries during treatment. Five others, including Ranchana Kallar, Dukuru Gand, Bishnu Gand, Balaram Bhatra, and Ratani Gand, remain in critical condition. Bishnu Gand was shifted to Umerkote for advanced care.
Police confirmed that the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Authorities seized the damaged vehicle and registered a case. Nine other workers escaped with minor injuries.
