Police arrested a habitual offender in Bhubaneswar after he stole an iPhone-15 and Rs 2.25 lakh cash from a parked car at Capital Hospital.
Incident at Capital Hospital
On March 26, 2026, complainant Ranjit Biswal parked his car at Capital Hospital while seeking medical treatment. When he returned, he found the window glass broken and the valuables missing. The stolen items included an iPhone-15 and cash worth Rs 2.25 lakh.
Capital Police registered Case No. 211/2026 under sections 305(a)/324(4) BNS. Officers launched an investigation and tracked the accused while he attempted to sell the stolen mobile phone.
Arrest and Recovery
Police apprehended the accused, identified as Rakesh Khuntia alias Tutulu, aged 25, from Bapuji Nagar. He hails from Sithal village under Balikuda police station in Jagatsinghpur district and currently resides in Kali Mandir Basti, Unit-VI, Bhubaneswar.
Investigators recovered the stolen iPhone-15 from his possession. Records revealed that Khuntia is a habitual offender involved in 17 previous cases. Police arrested him and forwarded him to court.
