An accident took place near Andanda under Patrapur block in Odisha on Thursday evening, leaving over 20 persons injured. Among them, four critically injured passengers were immediately transferred to Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College & Hospital, Brahmapur, for advanced medical assistance.
According to reports, a group of over 20 people from the Aska Dhuagaon region were travelling to Mahendra Giri hills for a visit in a pickup van. On their way back, near Baraha Pathar in Andanda, the vehicle lost control and overturned, scattering passengers onto the road.
Eyewitnesses stated that local villagers and emergency services, including the 108 ambulance, rushed to the scene to assist the injured. The victims were initially taken to the Patrapur Community Health Centre, where medics assessed their conditions. Due to severe injuries, four individuals—identified as Jiban Sahu (64), Shubham Nayak (11), Vishnu Gauda (35), and Ladu Parida—were transferred to MKCG Medical College.
Upon receiving information, Patrapur Fire Services and Jarada Police reached the accident site for investigation.
Jarada Police Station IIC Tuna Sasmal confirmed that an inquiry into the incident is underway to determine the exact cause of the vehicle losing balance.
As the injured continue to receive medical treatment, the local administration has urged citizens to prioritise road safety and remain cautious while travelling on hilly terrains.
