As the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) prepares to announce its final decision on participation in the T20 World Cup 2026, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly reached out to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in support of Bangladesh’s concerns over playing matches in India amid ongoing regional tensions.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the PCB sent a last-minute email to the ICC, copying members of the ICC Board, to outline its backing for Bangladesh’s stance. The correspondence comes ahead of a critical ICC Board meeting scheduled for Wednesday, which will discuss the BCB’s earlier request to relocate group-stage matches to Sri Lanka due to security concerns.
Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup Group and Schedule
Bangladesh, placed in Group B, is currently scheduled to play three group matches across Kolkata and Mumbai. However, the BCB has remained firm on its reluctance to send the team to India. As an alternative, the board reportedly proposed swapping its group with Ireland (Group C), which is slated to play preliminary matches in Sri Lanka. The ICC has reportedly rejected this suggestion, maintaining its original tournament schedule.
PCB Support and Regional Implications
Earlier reports in Pakistani media suggested that the Bangladesh government sought Pakistan’s diplomatic and cricketing support. Sources indicated that the PCB reviewed its own participation and expressed willingness to host Bangladesh’s matches should the standoff persist. The PCB, however, has yet to issue an official statement confirming its position.
The ongoing dispute has created uncertainty for players and fans alike, with the BCB-ICC impasse highlighting the complex intersection of sports diplomacy and regional security concerns ahead of one of cricket’s biggest global tournaments.
