A major accident occurred on National Highway 26 at Sunki Ghat near Jodimadali in Koraput district when a trailer fell off the ghat and caught fire.
The driver and helper narrowly escaped with their lives.
Reports said the trailer lost control while negotiating a curve and plunged down the ghat. The vehicle immediately caught fire after the fall, creating panic in the area. Fortunately, both the driver and helper managed to escape before the flames engulfed the trailer.
The Potangi Fire Service team rushed to the spot and began efforts to control the blaze. Firefighters worked to prevent the flames from spreading further and to ensure the safety of nearby commuters on NH-26.
The accident disrupted traffic movement along the busy highway for some time. Locals gathered at the site, watching the rescue and firefighting operations. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported apart from the trailer being completely gutted in the fire.
Police have started an inquiry into the incident to determine the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest overspeeding and loss of control on the steep ghat road may have led to the mishap.
