A tragic incident occurred at the Sundargarh Government Medical College and Hospital when a young patient, Anil Soreng, fell from the third-floor terrace and succumbed to his injuries.
Anil, a resident of Dayanidihi village under Sadar police limits, had been admitted to the hospital on Sunday for treatment of epilepsy. He was scheduled to be discharged today.
According to eyewitnesses, Anil expressed his desire to return home to his mother in the morning. When told he couldn’t leave yet, he reportedly got up from his bed, opened a window, and made his way to the terrace. There, he lost his balance and fell. For nearly half an hour, he clung to the edge of the terrace, desperately trying to save himself.
His mother, helpless and distraught, watched in horror as no hospital staff or authorities came to his aid. Onlookers gathered but failed to intervene effectively. Despite having time to attempt a rescue, no action was taken. Eventually, Anil’s grip gave way, and he fell to the ground, dying on impact.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about hospital safety protocols and staff responsiveness. Locals and family members are demanding accountability and a thorough investigation into the negligence that led to this preventable death.
