A heartbreaking incident unfolded at Titlagarh Maternal and Child Hospital, where parents held their dead child through the night in the hospital corridor.
Bhubaneshwar and Jahnavi from Deheli village brought their two-year-old son, Avinash, to Sindhekela Community Health Centre for treatment. Doctors referred the child to Titilagarh hospital, where he was admitted around 6 p.m. on Friday. Family members alleged that the child died soon after receiving an injection.
From 7 p.m. onward, the grieving parents remained in the corridor, clutching their son’s body. The hospital lacked a mortuary, and authorities refused permission to take the body home. Jahnavi cried inconsolably while holding her child, creating a heart-wrenching scene that shocked everyone present.
Relatives informed the police, but no solution came. The family continued to plead for help, yet officials did not respond. The absence of basic facilities forced the parents to endure the cold night with their child’s body in their arms.
Paediatrician Dr Biju Agrawal refused to provide details to the media. He only stated that the child’s body had been sent for a post-mortem.
This incident highlights the urgent need for humane medical infrastructure. The lack of mortuary facilities and the insensitive handling of bereaved families exposed serious gaps in healthcare services. The tragedy sparked outrage in Titlagarh and raised questions about accountability in hospitals.
