Sanjukta Bhuiyan, the wife of an SOG constable, was arrested on charges of impersonating a police officer and defrauding a couple of Rs 8.75 lakh.
Exploiting her proximity to the law enforcement community, she posed as a senior police officer, leveraging her husband’s police credentials to dupe unsuspecting victims.
Sanjukta cleverly crafted a convincing persona by donning her husband’s uniform for photos and sharing them on social media platforms. She befriended the victims, Bishnu Prasad Muduli and his wife Rashmita, under the pretense of offering official assistance and promising financial returns. Trust developed quickly, leading the couple to transfer a substantial amount to her account.
The victims lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police Station after discovering the fraud. Following investigations, cyber police arrested Sanjukta and cautioned the public against falling prey to similar scams. Authorities are now exploring the possibility of additional victims in this fraud scheme.
