Puri is abuzz with spiritual fervour as Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, returned to the Ratna Bedi after their divine sojourn at the Gundicha Temple.
The deities made their way back to the Srimandir’s Singhadwara, where their three majestic rathas (chariots) now stand, marking the culmination of the Bahuda Yatra.
On Sunday (July 6, 2025), devotees will witness the much-awaited Suna Besha, where the Chaturdha Murti will be adorned with intricate gold ornaments, a spectacle that draws millions to Puri’s Bada Danda. The deities, positioned on their rathas, will be embellished with gold jewellery after the daily rituals, offering a divine darshan to devotees from the afternoon onwards.
The schedule includes Mangala Alati at 6 AM, Gopal Ballabh Bhog by 10:30 AM, Madhyana Dhupa between 2 PM and 3 PM, and the Suna Besha from 5 PM to 6:30 PM. This rare golden adornment will be available for darshan until 10 PM or 11 PM, offering devotees a unique opportunity to witness the divine splendour.
The administration anticipates over 1.5 million devotees flocking to Puri for this grand event. Extensive arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth and disciplined darshan experience, with strict instructions prohibiting any servitors from standing in front of the deities on the rathas.
On Friday, a sea of devotees had already gathered to catch a glimpse of the ratha-bound deities, reflecting the immense devotion surrounding the event.
The Suna Besha, one of the most cherished rituals of the Jagannath Rath Yatra, showcases the deities adorned with gold ornaments weighing several quintals, symbolising divine opulence and devotion.
As Puri prepares for this dazzling event, the city resonates with chants of “Jai Jagannath,” uniting devotees in a shared spiritual celebration.
