Pakistan faced an embarrassing moment at the United Nations after an intervention by its representative backfired spectacularly.
Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, used just four seconds to deliver a powerful punchline: “Pakistan is another state sponsor of terror.”
Neuer was speaking during a UN council session on Israel’s bombings in Doha that killed Hamas leaders. Criticizing Qatar for “harbouring terrorists,” he argued that targeted attacks could have been avoided if terrorist leaders were not given shelter. To highlight what he called hypocrisy, Neuer reminded the council that when the US killed Osama Bin Laden inside Pakistan, world leaders celebrated.
Pakistan’s representative raised a point of order, rejecting Neuer’s accusations as a violation of sovereignty. However, the council president allowed Neuer four more seconds to finish his remarks — and that was all he needed to deliver the now-viral line.
The clip, shared by Neuer on X, has garnered over 2 million views and sparked heated debate online. Many praised the blunt statement, while others criticized it as oversimplification of a complex geopolitical issue.
