Over 30 passengers sustained injuries late Friday night in a major road accident on National Highway 60 near Junabalada under Basta police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district.
The mishap occurred when a Bhubaneswar-to-Kolkata passenger bus rammed into a stationary truck from Andhra Pradesh. According to preliminary investigations, the collision was likely caused by the bus driver’s negligence—either due to loss of control or falling asleep at the wheel. The front portion of the bus was completely mangled under the impact.
The bus was reportedly carrying over 50 passengers at the time of the crash. Emergency responders rushed the injured to Balasore Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment, while the remaining passengers were taken to Basta police station for support and inquiry.
Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported. The police have detained the bus driver for questioning and seized both vehicles as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have assured that further action will be taken based on detailed findings, as road safety concerns continue to mount in Odisha’s busy transport corridors.
