A passenger bus en route from Parjang to Bhubaneswar overturned near Kantiokteni under Tumusingha police station on Friday morning, leaving two youths dead and over 20 passengers critically injured.
The vehicle, reportedly carrying more than 50 individuals, lost balance on a muddy canal road, prompting allegations of driver negligence and unfamiliarity with the route.
Eyewitnesses claim the driver deviated from the usual path, leading to the mishap. Rescue efforts are currently being spearheaded by the fire department and local residents, with injured passengers rushed to Anlaberini Community Health Centre (CHC). Authorities are arranging transfers for those requiring advanced medical care.
Police have launched an investigation, though the driver and conductor are said to have fled the scene. The incident has sparked renewed concerns over rural road conditions and public transport safety in the region.
