A 108 ambulance driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, fell asleep while transporting a pregnant woman in critical condition in Gajapati district.

The incident occurred in R. Udaygiri block, where Nandini Raita of Kanikipadar village was being taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Initially admitted to Chandragiri Hospital due to labor pain, Nandini was referred to MKCG as her condition worsened. However, midway through the journey, the ambulance halted unexpectedly. Despite desperate attempts by her family to wake the driver, he remained unresponsive. Left with no choice, the family arranged another vehicle to continue the journey.

This act of negligence has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about emergency medical services in the region. Authorities are expected to initiate disciplinary action and investigate the matter thoroughly.
